Principal's Report

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Thank you for your support with our less than normal return to school. The majority of our students have either attended school or participated in the remote learning programme. It has been great to see so many of our students checking into Webex and engaging in the Seesaw lessons. Thank you to the parents who have supported these students at home. We understand how difficult this has been at times.

Whilst the staggered return to school has been a little difficult, it has provided an opportunity for our youngest students to establish themselves at school. We have been so impressed with our Reception and Year 1 students who have all been amazing and settled in so well to school life.

On Monday 14th February, we welcome back the remainder of our students in Years 2-6. It will seem a little different with an enrolment expected to be about 260 students across the school.

With this in mind, we have a number of measures that we must follow to minimise the impact of COVID-19 in the school.

COVID Safe Measures

  • All students must stay home if unwell, even mildly.
  • Physical distancing where possible.
  • Practice and promote hand and respiratory hygiene.
  • Extra cleaning will continue.

Face Masks

  • required for adults, except when it impedes the ability to teach.
  • strongly recommended for students in Years 3 to 6.
  1. Child masks are freely available at school for all students.

(Medical exemptions also apply)

Whilst we continue to plan for extra curricular activities to return after week 4, including SAPSASA swimming and athletics, camps, excursions, after school cricket, etc. These activities will be subject to restrictions being lifted after week 4.

Online Learning Resources

As of Monday 14th February when students return to school, teachers will not be expected to deliver a face-to-face learning program and provide remote learning if a student in the class tests positive to COVID-19 or is required to isolate due to being a close contact outside of school.

In this case students can access the learning at home lessons on 'Our Learning SA'.

Reception to Year 6 students can access a minimum of 3 Learning at home lessons online each day. Lessons are delivered via video or Microsoft PowerPoint and can be accessed on any device.

Parent ICT Helpline

The Parent ICT Helpline will continue to be available to assist parents and carers if students are accessing the learning resources on Our Learning SA (due to testing positive to COVID-19 or being a close contact outside of school). Parents can call 1800 271 211 for support.

Acquaintance Night – Tuesday 22nd February

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we will be hosting our Acquaintance Night via Webex.

This is an opportunity for Parents and Caregivers to meet their child’s classroom teacher via a Webex meeting.

Staff members will send an invitation and link via Seesaw. Parents will have the opportunity to arrange appointments with teachers at a later stage, should it be required.

Teachers will communicate expectations and classroom routines.

Webex Links will also be available for other specialist teachers should you wish to meet them.

These include: PE- Cameron Staker, Indonesian- Karen Butcher, Music- Helen Biar and Technologies- Patrick Fisher.

Meetings will be staggered throughout the evening so that families can meet various teachers. This will allow for parents who have more than one child at school, the opportunity to meet each teacher.

Le Fevre Peninsula Primary School Governing Council

We generally have an Acquaintance Night followed by the AGM in Week 4 of this term. Given the current situation, we have postponed the AGM (Acquaintance Night will be delivered via Webex).

However, at the AGM we take nominations from parents wishing to be on our Governing Council. As such, I have attached a nomination form, which we would like returned to the school (email is fine) by Friday 25th February.

For those new to the school, the commitment to being on the Governing Council is to attend 2 meetings a term (generally on a Monday night from 6pm to 8pm).

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me via email: bob.bowden832@schools.sa.edu.au or school phone: 84496417.

Being on Governing Council provides an insight into the overall operations of the school and the opportunity to have input into future directions.

Our Governing Council has 8 elected positions that members hold for 2 years. In 2022 we have 4 vacancies available.

We look forward to seeing some new members join the team.

Kind Regards,

Bob
