Principal's Report

Dear Parent/Caregivers,

Thank you to everyone who attended the Acquaintance Night online. This was a different way to meet the teacher and for teachers to introduce themselves and the learning programmes for 2022. Our Seesaw platform is working well, as it is the easiest and most effective way for us to inform families about classroom news and events. SZapp supports the school with whole school information. Please ensure that you regularly check both the apps to ensure that you receive our latest updates.

Our Governing Council AGM will be held on Monday 28th March at 6pm. We are planning on this being held in our music room, but this will be subject to current COVID restrictions. Anyone who attends the AGM will be required to be double vaccinated, as will all Governing Council representatives.

I am happy to announce that we have been approved to have our building 3, downstairs toilets upgraded by DfE. This has been an issue that we have been seeking to rectify since I was appointed. The upgrade will include a full scope of works, including; new flooring, cubicles, hand driers and exhaust fans.

Over the next month, we will be working to clean and de-clutter our garden area so that we can re-establish the garden beds with a winter crop. We are always looking for volunteers (subject to volunteer requirements), if you are interested in helping, please let us know.

We are still getting a small number of COVID 19 cases across the school. As per the DfE protocols I will inform classroom contacts via Seesaw if a student or staff member tests positive. Please support us by ensuring that if your child displays any symptoms (runny nose, sneezing, coughing, vomitting or lethargic), keep them home and get tested.

Young Leader Ambassadors Announced

This week, our Young Leader Executives were appointed.

I would like to congratulate the following students on their new roles.

Executive Chairperson: Emily (R21)

Executive Committee: Zoe (R21) and Natasha (R21)

We also have a number of senior students taking on other leadership positions, including Public Relations (school tours), Student Mentors and Canteen Monitors.

Thank you to all of the students who applied for these positions. Each student will receive a badge to acknowledge their important role in our school.

NAPLaN (Online)

In Weeks 3 & 4 of next term (10th to 20th May), the NAPLaN Online Tests will take place for students in Years 3 & 5.

The tests will cover Literacy (Language Conventions, Writing and Reading) & Numeracy.

The results gained from the tests provide us with data that we analyse and then use to program appropriately for our students. Our students will be undertaking the testing online.

In certain circumstances, students can be withdrawn or exempted from the tests with parent permission.

Reasons may include: Philosophical or personal reasons; Students with a language other than English who have been in the country for less than 12 months; Students with significant intellectual disability.

If you would like to discuss a possible exemption or withdrawal for your child, or anything else in relation to the tests, please feel free to contact either myself or Leah Koen before the end of this term (14th April).

Students with Disabilities and SSO’s in Classrooms

All students have different learning requirements. Over the first 5 weeks at school, teachers have been working hard to establish positive teacher- student relationships with their class. We have been focusing on creating safe conditions for rigorous learning. As we move through Term 1, the focus moves to understanding what students know, can do and understand and designing learning programs to build on their understandings.

SSO’s play a significant role in supporting students and teachers. In 2022 all classrooms have support staff during targeted lessons, supporting students who require extra help and/or extension.

Some students with identified disabilities will also receive a variety of extra support to meet their learning goals. Please feel free to make an appointment with your classroom teacher, if you wish to discuss your child’s learning.
