Principal's Report

Dear Families,

The end of Week 9 already!

Le Fevre Peninsula PS has been relatively lucky with minimal impact on learning programmes and disruptions caused by COVID-19. Many schools have had many staff and student illness resulting in compromised learning programmes and staff shortages. We have had a number of days when we have been unable to find relief teachers to cover illness, but our staff have been wonderful in supporting each other. Whilst we endeavour to employ relief teachers when teachers are away, it may not always be possible. At times we may need to join classes together or not provide a specialist subject on a particular day. We are becoming quite adept at being resourceful with our staffing.

Families have been fantastic with keeping sick students home and collecting students from school if they show any signs of illness. Again, thank you for your wonderful support.

Home Lessons Extended

If your child/ren can’t attend school face-to-face due to COVID-19, they can access the suite of learning at home lessons on 'Our Learning SA'.

R-2 students can access 11 weeks of video lessons. Students in years 3 to 10 can access 5 weeks of lessons.

These ready-to-go resources are designed for students to work through independently (without much help from an adult).

Encourage students learning at home to access the lessons on Our Learning SA

Covid-19 Update

We currently have a number of students who have tested positive to COVID.

Le Fevre Peninsula Primary School is following all guidelines, protocols and advice with regard to informing parents should their child be considered a classroom contact.

Only families of children who are considered classroom contacts will be notified.

In circumstances where a child or family member has tested positive but were not attending school during the infectious period, notifications will not be sent to the community.

The school will notify families of classroom contacts via SMS and/or email.

As the parent/guardian, please ensure that your child is well and has no symptoms of COVID-19 (even mild) prior to attend each day.

NAPLaN Online

As outlined in the last newsletter, if you are seeking an Exemption or Withdrawal for your child from NAPLaN this year, please contact the school at your earliest convenience so that we can advise you of your options.

Testing will be in Weeks 3 & 4 of next term.

Site Improvement Plan and Annual Report

The Annual Report and a simplified Site Improvement Plan are both accessible on our website.

Our directions continue to focus on improvement and growth in reading, writing and mathematics.

Governing Council AGM

We had very low numbers attend the Governing Council AGM on Monday night. We understand the impact of COVID-19 has had on these types of events. I was able to present the Annual report, Site Improvement Plan and finance reports to the members who attended. We have 2 vacancies that are required to be filled. If you are interested in being a member of the Governing Council for 2022, please let me know asap. The Governing Council meet twice per term. Our next meeting will be on Monday 11th April via Webex @ 6pm.

Picking Students up Early

A reminder that it is school policy when picking up a student early to come through the Front Office and sign the student out. It is preferable that prior arrangements are made with the class teacher.

School Sports

COVID-19 has had a huge impact on school sport. Unfortunately we did not have enough players to create a cricket team this term and school basketball has been postponed until Term 2.

We were lucky enough send a team to the Port SAPSASA athletics carnival on Tuesday. It was pleasing to see the students demonstrate our values of Respect, Responsibility and Effort. Thank you to Mr Staker and Mr Fisher for selecting and supervising the students.

SAPSASA Softball

Congratulations to Sasha, Alice and Connor F-S who have been selected in the Port SAPSASA softball teams. Oscar D and Clay have been selected in the Western SAPSASA softball teams. They will participate in the State Championships on 11th April – 13th April.

Mobile phone use for primary school students

The Department’s position is that primary aged students cannot use their mobile phones and personal devices at school during school hours and on school property. The Department and the school recognise that there are legitimate reasons for students to bring a mobile phone or personal device to school. This may include:

  • to ensure their safety while travelling
  • so that parents can contact them outside of school hours.

During the school day students are not permitted to access or use their mobile phones or other personal devices. Students must switch off or mute their devices before storing them at the beginning of the school day. They will not be able to access their device until the end of the school day.

Storage of personal devices

Mobile phones and personal devices must either be kept in students bags or given to the teacher to be stored in a secured location until the end of the day.

Enjoy the weekend!

Kind Regards,

Bob
