Principal's Report

As Term 1 2022 comes to a close, I have taken time to reflect on some substantial achievements and highlights that have taken place across the term. COVID 19 has had a huge impact on Term 1, starting with a staggered start to the year with online learning occurring for our year 3 – 6 students whilst our R – 2 students attended school.

The professionalism of the Le Fevre staff was truly fantastic, as they delivered learning programmes online and face to face with the ongoing disruption of student illness and isolation rules. Believe it or not, we are yet to hold a whole school staff meeting face to face. Luckily technology has assisted us with being able to connect in small groups and teams. Families should also be commended for their persistence throughout the term and supporting our staff. A big thank you to everyone.

We understand how hard it has been for many families.

We have tried to maintain many of our school activities in some capacity.

This has included:

  • Acquaintance Night – via Webex
  • AGM
  • Boardies Day
  • Aboriginal Cricket clinics and carnival
  • Harmony Day
  • SAPSASA District Athletics and Swimming Carnivals
  • SAPSASA Softball Championships
  • Parent –Teacher interviews

Farewell

I would like to acknowledge Darren Francis who has decided to follow other career options.  Darren was an integral member of our community who connected our Aboriginal families with our learning programmes. His support and guidance for our students and families has been invaluable. We are currently working through a process to fill our ACEO position.

We wish him all the best for his future.

Parent- Teacher Interviews

Last week, we held parent-teacher interviews for those families who could attend. Some families were also able to meet teachers via Webex. Due to varying circumstances some teachers were unavailable and will be in contact with families to make other arrangements. We are encouraging all families have a meeting or chat to teachers before the end of week 2 next term to discuss the learning progress of their child/children.

Attendance

COVID isolation rules and illness has had a significant impact on daily attendance rates. Whilst we encourage parents to keep their children home when they display any sign of illness, we recognise the importance of regular attendance at school. We have implemented very explicit reading programmes that rely on regular attendance. Administration staff have been regularly phoning families when students have been unexplained absences. Please ensure that absences are reported to the class teacher or front office staff.

NAPLaN

A reminder that NAPLaN testing will take place during Weeks 3 & 4 of next term. Please see previous newsletter for further details in regards to exemptions and withdrawals.

Reports

End of Semester reports will be distributed to students on Wednesday 6th July

If you have any concerns about the learning of your child, please make arrangements to meet with the class teacher early in term 2.

SAPSASA

Congratulations to Lylah and Kaylee who have been selected in the Port SAPSASA AFL girls team. They will compete in the upcoming SAPSASA State AFL Carnival in Term 2, 25th – 27th May.

Congratulations to both Alice and Sasha, who were participants in the recent State SAPSASA Softball Championships. The Port SAPSASA team was undefeated and won the overall Division 1 carnival. A fantastic effort.
