Welcome Back

Welcome back to another busy term. Hopefully things return to normal as much as possible.

The term planner will be forwarded to all families next week listing the major planned events.

Our next planned Student Free Day is Friday 27th May (Week 4). Our staff training and development will continue with part 2 of the Berry Street training.

NAPLAN testing will begin next Tuesday (10th May) for our year 3 and 5 students.

Our current testing schedule will be as follows:

Tuesday 10th May: Year 3 & 5 Writing

Thursday 12th May: Year 3 & 5 Reading

Monday 16th May: Year 3 & 5 Conventions of Writing

Tuesday 17th May: Year 3 & 5 Numeracy

Catch-up tests will be available (in order) over the 2 week testing period.

NAPLAN tests the sorts of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life, such as reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy. It is important to remember that NAPLAN is not about passing or failing, but about assessing learning progress.

NAPLAN results give schools a snapshot of student progress at a moment in time. It is important to speak to your child’s teacher if you have any concerns about their learning. Teachers will use a range of assessments throughout the year to support the ongoing learning of individuals.

SAPSASA Football

Congratulations to Jayden and Angus  who have been selected for Port SAPSASA in the upcoming State Football Championships (25th – 27th May)

Le Fevre Peninsula PS continues to have students trialling and being selected in various teams. Each and every student selected have been wonderful ambassadors for our school and district.

Selected students have the opportunity to wear their SAPSASA hoodies for 2 weeks after the event at school. You may see a number of our students wearing these jumpers with pride.

Congratulations to Clay who has been selected (from trials in 2021) for the upcoming State Cross Country Championships at Oakbank on Thursday 9th June.

High School Transition

This week, the statewide transition processes and registration of interest for enrolment at High School began. We know that this will be an important time for families. Families are asked to complete their child’s registration of interest by 13th May. All families with students in year 6 should have received an email with a 'Registration of Interest' link.

If you have not received this email or require help, please contact Front Office staff for support.

Enter for Success

The Enter for Success strategy gives Aboriginal and /or Torres Strait Island students the opportunity to enrol and be accepted into any government school they choose the year before starting school.

The strategy aims to support the inclusion, attendance, participation and retention of Aboriginal students at school.

The strategy applies to:

  • children eligible to start Reception in 2023
  • year 6 students applying to start secondary school in 2023.

A place will have been made for your child at their local school, however, if you wish for your child to attend a different school, you can select another school through the Enter for Success strategy. Once a school is chosen, the school will work with you to make sure they give your child the necessary support and opportunities to achieve their best at school.

How to apply:

  • Year 6 families would have recently received a registration form to start secondary school in 2023. The Enter for Success strategy is automatically applied to all students who identify as Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander. You should complete and return your child’s form by 27 May 2022.

If you are interested in the strategy for your child, you will need to contact us as soon as possible to discuss the options for your child and commitment of everyone involved.
