Principal's Report

Dear Parent/Caregivers,

Welcome to our Week 3 Newsletter.

What a busy few weeks we have had! NAPLAN has concluded for another year. Staff have been so impressed with the students during testing. They have demonstrated our values of both persistence and effort throughout the 2 weeks. Well done. Year 5 & 6 students have been participating in baseball and softball clinics with students from Seaton High School in preparation for the annual Shark Cup later this term. Our sporting teams in basketball and soccer have resumed competitions and various SAPSASA events and carnivals continue to go ahead as planned.

Covid-19 Update

We (like so many other schools) are being impacted by illness to students and staff due to Covid-19. Whilst we endeavour to cover classes with TRTs, it may not always be possible, resulting in various LPPS school teachers covering classes or classes being split.

Please continue to monitor for symptoms of Covid-19. You, as the parent/caregiver, must ensure your child is well and has no symptoms of Covid-19 (even mild) prior to them attending each day.

If your child develops symptoms such as a fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, loss of smell/taste, muscle/joint pains, diarrhoea, nausea/vomiting or extreme tiredness, please:

  • Obtain a PCR test (You can find your nearest Covid-19 testing clinic here)
  • Inform the Le Fevre Peninsula PS staff and keep your child at home until you receive confirmation of a negative test and their symptoms have been resolved, whichever is longer.
  • If your child tests positive, s/he is a Covid-19 case, must remain isolated for 7 days and must follow SA Health instructions.

National Volunteer Week 2022

National Volunteer Week (NVW) is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteers.

From the 16th to 22nd of May, the Department for Education will celebrate the significant contribution of more than 20,000 volunteers working in our schools, preschools and centres.

The theme for National Volunteer Week 2022 is 'Better Together'.

Volunteering brings people together; it builds communities and creates a better society for everyone.

National Volunteer Week is a chance for all of us to celebrate and recognise the vital work of volunteers and to say thank you.

Together, through volunteering, we are changing communities for the better. We are, 'Better Together'.

Thank you to our volunteers who help coach and manage sports teams, volunteer on Governing Council, volunteer time to work at breakfast club, help in the canteen,  help in classrooms and supervise on excursions, help with parent club and homework club. We appreciate all of the work that our community contributes to make our school a better place.

If you would like to volunteer in our school please contact Leah or myself.

Today at our online assembly we had the opportunity to thank Wendy one of our volunteers. She currently runs our breakfast club every morning. It is a great way for our students to start the day and their learning, and we appreciate all of her efforts.

Facilities Upgrades

Our Building 3 toilets are nearing the end of the long awaited upgrade. We have new toilets, flooring, higher cubicles, tiling, troughs and hand driers.  I am sure the community will appreciate the upgrade.

Building 2 (Library/Canteen and JP rooms) will soon be having some external maintenance, including various repairs and painting. I am sure the old building will look a lot brighter when completed.

I have also been working with a small group of students preparing the garden beds for a crop of winter vegetables. We look forward to planting our seedlings.

Aboriginal Education

We are pleased to announce that Kahlia Miller–Koncz has been appointed as our new ACEO until the end of Term 2 (hopefully beyond). Kahlia brings a wealth of experience, cultural knowledge and connections that will strengthen our school’s cultural connections and understandings. Kahlia will provide support to our community and support our staff link Aboriginal perspectives in the curriculum. Welcome Kahlia.

Reconciliation Week

Next week (27th May – 3rd June) we begin our celebration of Reconciliation Week. National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving Reconciliation in Australia. There are number of activities planned for our students which we will share through Seesaw, assembly and newsletters over the next few weeks.

We are also holding a Reconciliation Week Donut Day on Wednesday 1st June. All orders must be made by Thursday 26th May to the Front Office. For every donut sold, the school will donate 50c to the Tjindu Foundation.  The Tjindu Foundation supports Aboriginal children in South Australia shine their brightest through participation in our industry-leading cultural and sporting excellence programs.

Transition to High School

All families of year 6 students should have received an email with directions to enrol their child in High School.

This enrolment process must be completed by Friday 27th May.

Enrolment for Le Fevre Peninsula PS 2023

LPPS is currently accepting Registrations of Interest (ROI) for Reception enrolment in 2023. Families are encouraged to complete a ROI by 30th June 2022. For more enrolment information, please speak to either Jeanette or Caitlin in the Front Office.

Round 1 offers for enrolment to local families, siblings and Aboriginal students will be made from 1st August with round 2 being offered after the 1st September.

A school enrolment tour is planned for Wednesday 25th May between 9 - 10am.  Please share this information with families who are thinking of enrolling their child/ren at Le Fevre PS.

It is really important to ensure that the Registration of Interest is completed and returned so that we can plan our classes for 2023.
