Year 6 Literacy and Science: Should Animals Be in Zoos?
This term, our Year 6 students combined literacy and science in a persuasive writing unit focused on the idea; “Should Animals Be Kept in Zoos?”
Using the text “Should Animals Be in Zoos?”, students explored a range of persuasive techniques, including emotive language, rhetorical questions, facts and statistics and the crescendo. They also strengthened their paragraph writing skills by using the Single Paragraph Outline to structure their ideas clearly and effectively.
They explored arguments for and against zoos, developed their own opinions, and wrote powerful persuasive texts to share their views. It was a great opportunity to link writing with real-world issues and scientific thinking. We are really proud of our writing!
