Dear Families,
Welcome to our Week 6 Newsletter.
There are always so many activities happening in our school and I am constantly amazed what happens from one newsletter to the next.
Student free days always give our staff a chance to come together to work on whole school initiatives. We are currently reviewing LPPS behaviour management processes. The review is aimed at supporting student behaviour and engagement, as well as developing clear behavioural expectations based on our school values.
Reconciliation Week
This year the Theme for Reconciliation Week was “Bridging Now to Next”. The theme reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future. “Bridging Now to Next” calls on all Australians to step forward together, to look ahead and continue the push forward as past lessons guide us.
At Le Fevre Peninsula Primary we celebrated Reconciliation Week. We started the week with a welcome assembly coordinated by our MALPA students. The assembly included a whole school display of Native Hibiscus art, the choir performed and led a whole school singing of “Always was, Always will be”, a smoking ceremony with Otis Carter to give healing from meaningful learning about Sorry Day and a dance by Rikki Wilson. Other activities during the week included, a shared bush tucker morning tea for staff, our Grannies Group reading to students and sharing stories, classes attended 'Rec in the West' and all of the classes participated in a range of cultural activities. We concluded the week by wearing our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander colours and designs, and having a shared BBQ lunch supplied by The Lighthouse Mission.
It is great to announce that Gibson Turner will be joining our staff as an ACEO until the end of Term 3. We look forward to him starting next week.
Port SAPSASA Football
Congratulations to Zohdi and Hunter who represented the school in the Port SAPSASA Football Team. They had a great day and won silver in Division 4. Well done!
Mid-Year Reporting
This year, our reports will be coming home on Thursday 3rd July.
Mid-Year Reception Enrolments
On Wednesday, our new Mid-Year Reception students visited the school for their first transition visit. We were excited to meet them all and know that our students will make them feel special and welcome.
2026 Reception Enrolments
A reminder for all families who have siblings or know of families starting school in Reception in 2026, a registration of interest form is required to be completed and returned to the front office by the end of Term 2. Please see Jeanette or Kerry in the Front Office for more details and forms.
Building 3 Upgrade
We are excited about the progress being made in the redevelopment of the upstairs classrooms in building 3.
The handover of classrooms is planned for Friday 27th June. The new furniture is expected to be delivered the following week.
Access to building 3 will still be limited, with the lift to be installed shortly after.
We trust that everyone enjoys the long weekend.
Kind regards,
Bob
Rooms 4 and 5 “Reconciliation in the West” Tauondi College
On the Thursday of Week 5—during Reconciliation Week—Room 4 and Room 5, along with Jess and some wonderful parent volunteers, went on a short train ride to Port Adelaide to attend Reconciliation in the West at Tauondi Aboriginal Community College. The event was a vibrant celebration of culture, community and connection, with over 60 interactive stalls, live music, workshops, and engaging activities that kept students excited and curious all day long.
Highlights from the day included:
- Bugs N Slugs: Students got up close with critters from the rainforest, desert, and beach, learning about the important role these insects play in our ecosystems, even in our own backyards!
- Nylon Zoo: Dressed in colourful native animal costumes, the children danced and then gathered inside a giant inflatable turtle to hear storytelling that celebrated culture and nature.
- The Colour Run: After enjoying a sausage sizzle lunch, students put on white shirts, hats, and sunnies and raced across the Tauondi oval in a flurry of coloured powder. Some students made it their mission to finish the race entirely coated in bright pinks, purples, yellows and greens—much to their delight!
It was a fantastic day out, full of energy, learning and laughter. We are very grateful to our School AET Jess for organising the excursion, and to our wonderful parent volunteers, Angela and Amber, for giving up their time to support the students throughout the day.
The excursion was a brilliant way to conclude Reconciliation Week at Le Fevre Peninsula Primary School. It complemented our school-wide Sorry Day reflections with the Grannies Group, a whole-school assembly led by the MALPA team, a powerful smoking ceremony conducted by Otis Carter, and a community picnic hosted by the Lighthouse City Mission.

The Year 6’s had a fun trip to the Zoo last Friday. We spent our time roaming the zoo looking at all the animals, paying particular attention to their enclosures. In our Science Topic “Life’s Needy” we have been researching a variety of different animals and how they interact with their natural environment. We are also writing Persausive Texts in literacy with our focus question being 'Should there be Zoos?' The excursion gave us the perfect opportunity to take a closer look at all the different Zoo enclosures to help us with coming up with an answer to that question. It was great to see all the different animals, but it was even better to see Mr Ramsey who dropped in to visit us!
